Woodesign was founded in 1979 in Arizona by Larry Langhurst and Bernie Becker. They had a mission to create “Signature Woodwork” that provided superior quality millwork for residential and commercial projects. The humble beginnings started at an old cabinet shop and the focus was to create unique furniture pieces and cabinets, but they quickly got involved in whole-house projects and designed, planned and built custom-made elements like no other. In the late 80’s they had perfected and got known for their skill for building unique and challenging projects, like curved staircases.

The reputation for being the preferred shop for quality projects doing furniture, staircases and cabinetry continued through the 90’s where customers from across the country requested their work. It included doing condominiums in New York and also a yacht, which obviously was a very special and interesting project. During these years the company grew to a team of 10 people and from the small cabinet shop to the current location at Corona Ave with 1.5 acres and nearly 16,000 sq. ft of shop and studio space.

In the early 2000’s commercial projects started to grow significantly and included customers like Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Elements @ Sanctuary, Sapporos and Trader Vic’s. As a result, after 25 years of continued commitment to excellence and a mantra to “Underpromise and overdeliver” Woodesign’s reputation earned them national awards and magazine covers. The recognition as a trusted and respected craftsman wood shop has since led well-known architects, interior designers and customers to select Woodesign for projects that require unique engineering solutions and detail-driven attention.

After 40 years of successfully running the company, it was time to secure the future growth and continuation of Woodesign. Chosen for his respect of the legacy and his shared belief and passion for woodwork excellence, Danish-born and 30-year U.S. resident Michael Pedersen acquired Woodesign in 2018. Inspired by new trends in Italian and Danish cabinetry, Michael’s vision is to continue the craftsmanship excellence in custom work and in addition bring modular European cabinetry into the portfolio. The three-some are dedicated to continuing the success of Woodesign and the quality of work we’re known for.
